Aloha all,
Our child’s school has purchased, and/or leased new Mac’s. They have a Mac Mobile Lab with 10 Mac Books and 10 iMacs. The old Dells are still in place as well with a network that doesn’t seem to be supporting the school’s use of the Macs very well.

Great teachers with desire to get the most out of the Macs are getting frustrated with the problems.

Need some ideas from you all to help them enjoy the Macs and use them for teaching, as well as iLife projects for school fun and moral. Any network ideas or key, knowledgeable folks we ought to contact to help out will be appreciated.

Mahalo,

Kevin

Aloha Larry,
Rick Ortiz has been by the school and is scheduled to return to help out. However, to keep the ideas coming, the problems fall mainly in the network, or lack thereof. Seems the configuration of the routers is not providing a reliable signal throughout the campus.

No network reliability removes the sharing features and email, internet. Same problem they had when PC’s dominated the school.

Besides that, I think they need a more efficient accounts set up. My idea is to have an account for each class with it’s own password. within which would live a file for each student. The teacher’s would have their own account separate from the class.

What would it take to set things up in that manner but work from a server so it would not matter which Mac you were on at the school, you could log-in to the appropriate account and gain access to your file and use, create, save old and new files and projects and it would all be accessible on another day from another Mac at the school?

Once the network and accounts are cleaned up I am sure the school faculty will have fun learning Mac with the students.

There is still alot of information missing to be able to help.

Looks like you are in good hands, if Rick is there to do it for you.

What school is this for?

Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina. Rick is lining things up, I am sure improvements are close at hand.

Thanks,
