Maui and Apple Macintosh computers go hand in hand- Maui is a very Mac friendly island. Who would have thought on Maui you can find an Apple Specialist? Did you know the 1999 iMacs were code named "Kihei"? Could it be a coincidence that Hawaii exports the Macadamia "Mac" nut, known as the best type of nut worldwide?
The Maui Apple User Society, MAUS (pronounced as “Mouse") for short, was started back in 1994. Now, 14 years later, the Maui Apple Users Society has grown, and flourished into one of the premier Mac User Groups in the United States. Our User Group has grown rapidly in the past few years, and is now currently hovering at 200 members. Apparently, Maui is the place to be, especially so if you own or are just plain interested in Macs.
In key, Maui Apple Users Society and other Apple User Groups worldwide are organizations created by people interested in sharing information about their computers and what they can accomplish with the help of digital technology. User groups are about the technology, but also about the friendships that result. Over 700 user groups worldwide have registered and recognized by Apple - some with fewer than 30 members, others with over 1,000.
We help members with technical questions, give honest advice on software selection, and provide a friendly environment where people can learn more about their computers. It’s not uncommon to find one-on-one support, monthly meetings, an informative newsletter, member discounts, resource libraries stocked with the latest titles, and of course, the inevitable camaraderie that all Mac users share in our group.

The efforts of the group are not only for Maui Mac users to share information, but also to give back and support the Maui Community. This has been done in a collaborative effort with various non-profit organizations on Maui in the past and now through Maui Community College and the County of Maui. Our local community college has graciously provided a computer lab with 20 Macs for our meeting. In return for the meeting space, the Maui Apple Users Society has promoted the colleges’ resourceful and extensive Mac classes.
Quarterly, the Maui Apple Users Society participates in a county event entitled “CompuSwap”, where we keep computers that would otherwise be thrown away from entering the landfill. More information on this and our ongoing community efforts can be found on the community page of our website.
The Maui Apple Users Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month. We encourage mac users to become members and support the group. For more information or to join, please visit other sections of this website, or call Rick Ortiz at 280-1587 or email
