Topic: Spring Cleaning 

With summer right around the corner, we still have time for some spring cleaning with our Macs and iOS devices. Join us this month as we discuss ways to clean up files, folders, and items taking up extra space on your computer and devices. Find ways to discover what is eating up all your storage space, the safe ways to delete items, find duplicates and keep your device in tip top shape. Topic: It’s in the (i)Cloud

What is the iCloud? At this month’s meeting we will take a look at how, when and why you may want to use the iCloud. Apple provides us the iCloud for free, but is it safe? We’ll take a look at Apple’s cloud and see how it’s different from other clouds. We’ll also have a discussion on what is cloud computing and other services that are in the cloud, such as DropBox and Google Drive. Join us this month as we go up to the clouds with guest speaker Rick Lantz as he shows us how he uses the iCloud to keep all his data in sync with his iOS and OSX systems. With iPhones and iPads capable of not only pictures, but High Definition Video, we are in a generation of sharing our memories in motion. Join us this month as we take a look at video capture, basic editing, and sharing. We will discuss products designed for the consumer and professional as well as discuss how to handle all your video storage needs, online services such as YouTube, and a variety of other video topics related to your Apple products. Topic: Type that for me please!

Voice Dictation has been around for a number of years now, but the issue has always been how fast and accurate the computer can transcribe what you are saying into text. Now we are seeing mobile devices being able to recognize our voice and transcribe what we are saying as well. Join us this month as we take a look at voice dictation and commands for your Mac and iOS devices. We will review Apple’s built in software as well as Dragon Dictate for Mac, and have a conversation with Siri.

Topic: Passwords, Passwords, Oh What is that Password?

With the growth of us doing more on the internet, such as buying, banking, email, and social media, we have had to develop ways of logging into these services. We have to remember so many passwords, some with numbers, some with a capital letter, some we have to change every 60 days. Passwords are designed to keep our internet lives safe from others. No wonder we can never remember them all.

Join us this month as we review two pieces of software: LastPass and 1Password (members attending the meeting will receive a link to receive 25% off 1Password). We will also discuss ways to streamline your passwords, develop complex passwords, ways to prevent your online accounts from being compromised, and why computer passwords are important. As always we will save time for your Apple and Mac related questions after the meeting.

It seems the holidays are already upon us. Let’s start off the long weekends, those cold Maui nights (in Kula) with some great Apple sharing and networking. Our meeting this month is Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. Our topic this month: Preparing for the holiday season with your Apple products. We will review making gift cards and calendars with iPhoto, sharing special video moments with iMovie, sharing those special moments on your iPad or AppleTV, and where to find great deals and other great Apple related gift ideas.

Did you know the Hawaiian keyboard and dictionary is built into both OS X and iOS? Ever wonder how people send you those happy faces in a text? Have a treat of your own to share?
